playstation 2 repair

does anyone know where i can get my sons ps2 repaired at in the local area? any help would be greatly appreciated.

if it's a disc read error problem, Sony fixes it for free

i dont know what is wrong with it my son just said it was broken it is a fairly used system about 2-3 years old, i dont know if it is a disc read problem or just wont work at all lol. thats why i was hoping g2k games still does tech support but i just came from there and they said they did not do that anymore so hence my problem lol

ask him what happens when he tries to play a game...if it comes up on the screen "disc read error" then Sony has to fix it for free b/c of a lawsuit when they used cheap parts to make the earlier systems...i'd go that route, b/c otherwise you're gonna wind up payin 50+ for a system you can get for around 80

i went up to the one by walmart and i asked them and they said they did not do repair work anymore

If you are crafty enough and dont want to send it off(if there is a disc read error) take the ps2 lid off the unit(8 screws), keep the ribon cable intact as you lift the lid off, youll see the tray on the right in which youll need a micro screwdriver to remove the top portion of the tray. Once that is removed, youll see the lens. Take a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and gently sweep the lens. That will get all of the debris off the lens(laser). Put the tray back on over the cd drive, then clean the fan real good in the back. Remove all the dirt from it because thats where a good portion of the dirt thats getting on the lens is coming from. After youre done cleaning, put the lid back on, put the 8 screws back in and youre done.
